Thank you! Gracias! Grazie! Mahalo! Cảm ơn bạn! We’re excited to share that $3,495 was raised during Dec. 3rd’s 24-hours of giving, a new record for the Diocese of Grand Rapids. Thank you for choosing to #GiveCatholicWM on #GivingTuesday in support of our diocese’s parishes, schools and ministries, and for sharing the gifts of your time, talent and treasure all year long!
Giving Tuesday, Dec. 3, was an opportunity for Catholics and others to #GiveCatholicWM in support of our diocese’s parishes, schools and ministries. During 24 hours of giving on Dec. 3, participants made a gift to their favorite parish, school or ministry in the diocese with the goal of accomplishing good things together through the power of generosity!
The opportunity to give began at 12 a.m. on Dec. 3. From 12 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. that day, individuals were able to give securely online at our special Giving Tuesday donation page, bitly.com/givecatholicwm.
Contributors had the opportunity to give in general or to earmark their gift for a particular parish, school, or ministry. 100% of each earmarked donation goes to the designated parish, school or ministry. Credit card fees were not charged.
Give of your time
Since 2012, Giving Tuesday has become the world’s largest giving movement. At the heart of this movement is what Catholics recognize as the Gospel value of charity. “Charity unites love of God with love of neighbor; it bridges Old and New Testaments; it provides the foundation for human morality; it spans all time and all peoples.” (In All Things Charity: A Pastoral Challenge for the New Millennium, USCCB) Generosity of spirit, of time, and of material goods is an integral part of our Catholic faith and when practiced has the ability to bring people together, promote human dignity, and build a better society.
Along with monetary gifts, Giving Tuesday is a day to give of our time. Catholics are encouraged to do this by volunteering or making the Uprise Generosity Commitment together as a family. Uprise is a lay-volunteer Catholic generosity movement in the diocese based on the Church’s works of mercy. Diocesan staff members spent the afternoon of Dec. 3 volunteering with Grand Rapids area Catholic-Christian organizations and communities who serve the sick, the poor and the elderly.
