Within our alliance of 31 Catholic schools in the Diocese of Grand Rapids, our educational ministry is focused on students and has Jesus Christ as the foundation. With this in mind, we are proud to announce an updated mission statement for our alliance of Catholic schools:
We prepare students to seek and fulfill God’s plan for learning and life.
Previously, our mission statement was, “We are an alliance of Catholic schools where Christ illuminates learning and life.” We are excited by how our new mission statement specifically places our students and God’s plan for their learning and lives at the core of our purpose.
Superintendent Dave Faber and the Diocesan Catholic School Board began a review of our mission statement in fall 2019. Over the course of the following year, Mr. Faber met with pastors, boards, school leaders, and faculty to propose a new mission statement and gather feedback. The new mission statement was then presented to Bishop Walkowiak, who approved it this fall.
Our alliance of 26 elementary schools and five high schools is a collaboration of families, faculty, staff, school leaders, board members, and pastors. Through our alliance of schools, students receive a fully integrated Catholic education that prepares them to fulfill God’s plan through the highest-quality academic and faith formation.

Catholic schools in the Diocese of Grand Rapids are an alliance of 31 vibrant learning communities (26 elementary and five high schools) serving more than 6,000 preschool through 12th grade students throughout West Michigan. Our schools inspire young people to grow in Catholic faith and grace, achieve more in school and life, develop creativity and character, and feel welcomed and cherished for their unique gifts. We partner with parents to awaken the whole child to a world of light and life — that grows better and brighter when children reach their potential.
