Sacred Heart Parish and Academy will welcome three members of the Sister Servants of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, who are joining the community this spring. The sisters will support the parish’s many ministries and teach in the academy. Their presence will further inspire families to live a life of holiness and complete dedication to Christ and his Church. It has been over nine years since religious sisters have been part of the parish and academy in this way. The Sister Servants of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus will be the 10th order of religious sisters currently serving in the Diocese of Grand Rapids.
“Our parish and school are overwhelmingly grateful to Most Reverend David J. Walkowiak, bishop of Grand Rapids, for his approval to establish a convent of the Sister Servants of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus in Grand Rapids, and to the three sisters who will be arriving to collaborate in our educational and parish apostolates,” said Reverend Robert Sirico, pastor. “Their presence will be an abiding witness to the culture established at Sacred Heart for more than 100 years, and a vital force in the renewal we have been experiencing in the past several years.”
The three sisters joining the Sacred Heart Parish and Academy community offer a variety of gifts to the parish, academy and community at large. Sister Mary Daniel Jackson (on the right in the picture) has vast experience in outreach and evangelization, liturgy and liturgical functions, music, and business development. Sister Gabriela Strachowska (center), originally from Poland, is a registered nurse. Sister Angela Marie Igou (left) has experience in youth ministry and tutoring.
Founded in Krakow, Poland, in 1894, the Sister Servants of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus are devoted to extending the Kingdom of Love in the Heart of Jesus. More information on the Sister Servants of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus is available here: http://www.sacredheartsisters.org/1.html.

Sacred Heart Parish & Academy is a Roman Catholic Parish and Catholic classical Academy on the West side of Grand Rapids. Following years of declining enrollment and on the brink of closure, the parish re-founded the school in 2013 as a Catholic classical academy. Our educational ministry, serving diverse families with children in preschool through 12th grade for full time students and enrichment courses as a partnership with home school families is guided by a simple mission: We are a parish apostolate of Sacred Heart of Jesus dedicated to assisting families, forming Catholics, and cultivating culture.
