Welcome to Catholic Central High School! Founded in 1906, we are the oldest Catholic, coeducational diocesan high school in the United States and the largest school in the Diocese of Grand Rapids. We are proud to provide the Right Education, Right Downtown in the Heartside neighborhood, a culturally rich environment in which our students learn to apply our core values: Love, Lead, Serve, Strive, Wonder, & Honor.
We believe in a Christ-centered education, supporting each student holistically on his or her journey toward a purpose-filled life. We believe the greatest gift we can give our students is a living faith, a prepared mind, and an open heart. Our mission reflects both the life skills and life outcomes we seek to cultivate in our students as part of a life of discipleship in the 21st century. And we believe there is no better time to become a part of the Cougar community than right now as we complete The Greatest Gift campaign, a $19 million investment to invigorate our future.
You will find, as over 18,000 living alumni will attest, there is something for everyone at Catholic Central. We are a school big enough to serve you, yet small enough to know you. Here, you’ll find ample opportunities to become your best self, surrounded by a community that believes it’s always “A Great Day to be a Cougar!”
If you’re one who believes faith and reason are integral to education; who believes in excellence partnered with service; and who believes a challenging and supportive environment will open doors for growth and opportunity, Catholic Central is the high school for you. Join us, and dare to transform your future and ours.
Yours in Christ,
Catholic Central High School challenges students to know and love God, seek knowledge and truth, respect the dignity of each person, and contribute to society through leadership and service.
For each and every student, finding meaning in life is both a challenge and an opportunity. We believe that real meaning only comes through a faith-filled relationship with Jesus Christ and a desire to serve others. Through the intercession of the Blessed Mother, patroness of Catholic Central High School, we proudly nurture a culture that supports and expresses Gospel values and the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
Students engage in and enrich our Catholic culture through retreats, service opportunities, prayer experiences, pilgrimages, eucharistic adoration, and weekly Mass in the Cathedral of Saint Andrew. Through our unifying school prayer, The Memorare, our community of young people understand, in a very profound way, that God exists in our school and that we encounter him through each other, the sacraments, Scripture, prayer, and the ordinary activities of our daily lives.
At Catholic Central High School, students engage in the highest-quality college preparatory curriculum in an environment built on faith, collaboration, high expectations, and individualized support of every student. In doing so, we prepare students not only for college, but also for the life they are called to live.
Led by an exceptional, growth-oriented faculty and staff, students explore learning opportunities through an integrated curriculum while challenged to think critically and creatively through various lenses, none more important than our Catholic faith.
We offer 99 courses in 10 programs including Honors and AP courses (including AP Capstone) in all core programs, fundamental courses in math, science, and theology, and a full complement of elective and enrichment opportunities for all students. We also offer on-campus dual-enrollment courses through Aquinas College and off-campus career and technical courses through community partners. What are our results? Accomplished, mature graduates who become the next generation of leaders and servants in higher education, the workplace, and their communities.
No school boasts more pride than Catholic Central! Our extracurricular opportunities create lessons that last a lifetime and are fundamental to students’ growth and development in spirit, mind, and body. We offer a robust student life program that schools three times our size envy. Through service projects, dozens of clubs and travel opportunities, superior art, theatre, and music programs, and a premier athletic program, we extend our education beyond the classroom. Access and opportunities are plentiful, with 80% of our student body engaged in these programs. Through these opportunities our students are able to display and develop their God-given talents as part of their school experience with championship success.
