Thank you for considering SS. Peter and Paul School for the education of your child! SS. Peter and Paul School, SSPP, is a preschool through eighth grade elementary school, presently enrolling 129 students, in the city of Ionia.

Through a combination of strong academics, parent involvement, and faith-based experiences, SSPP strives to meet the individual needs of our students academically and spiritually. Our classroom teachers and administrative staff are all state certified and continue to attend conventions, workshops, and college courses to stay up to date.

SSPP Family School Council provides many activities in which parents can be an active part of the school and parish community. There are opportunities to be tutors, lunch helpers, coaches, event helpers, field trip chaperones, etc.

SS. Peter and Paul School is supported financially through school tuition, a subsidy from SS. Peter and Paul Parish, grants from the parish Education Foundation, fundraisers, annual alumni contributions, and donations from the community.

The school administration, the parish pastor, and the SSPP School Board of Education work together to ensure that families who wish to send their children to SSPP will be able to do so regardless of financial status. For those whom tuition is an undue burden, financial assistance is available. Many families also participate in a SCRIP program through Great Lakes Scrip Company, in which a certain percentage of purchases at retailers is deducted from school tuition bills.

If you have any further questions concerning SS. Peter and Paul School, please do not hesitate to call the school office or to send an email. My administrative assistant, Diane Grummet, and I will be glad to help you in any way that we possibly can.

We are so excited that your family will soon be joining ours at SS. Peter and Paul School!

Mission

With a rich faith tradition of over 100 years, the mission of SS. Peter & Paul School is to provide a high-quality Catholic education in a Catholic Christian environment. Through the Word, example, and service, students are taught a sense of responsibility for others and are encouraged to be actively involved in their faith and local communities. Our goal is to form future leaders, productive citizens, and active faith-filled Christian men and women.

Academics

Students at SS. Peter and Paul School follow the curriculum guidelines of the Diocese of Grand Rapids Office of Catholic Schools. In addition to the core curriculum subjects of religion, language arts, mathematics, and social studies, K-8th grade students also have Spanish, music, computers, physical education, and art. Students in 5th-8th grade have the opportunity for daily band class, as well. Our alumni have gone on to become valedictorians and salutatorians of Ionia High School and have taken on prominent positions in the local community.

Faith

Students at SS. Peter and Paul School attend weekly liturgy, receive Catholic religion instruction and sacraments, and pray daily. Students are also given the opportunity to live their faith in their local and global community by participating in many service projects throughout the school year.

Extracurriculars

SSPP offers Homework Club after school each Monday and Thursday. Walking Club is held each Tuesday and Wednesday during the fall and spring. Basketball is offered for grades 3-8 each year. Additionally, SSPP participates in many activities sponsored by the Knights of Columbus, such as the annual spelling bee and free throw contest. We participate in local activities such as Young People's Theater, the annual Chili Dawg Challenge, the Main Street Electric Christmas Parade, and the Mrs. Claus Craft Bazaar.
