If you tuned into Jeopardy on December 2, you may have seen a familiar face. Joshua Gregor, a Latin teacher at Sacred Heart Academy (SHA), fulfilled a personal dream and competed on the national game show.

Joshua, who is in his third year as a teacher at SHA, attributes both his penchant for trivia and his career as a teacher to his love for learning. “I’ve always loved watching Jeopardy,” he said. “I grew up watching it with my mom. In 2015, I just started taking the online quiz as often as I could, not thinking anything was really going to happen. When they invited me to compete on the show, I couldn’t believe it.”

Joshua and his wife flew to Los Angeles to film. “They filmed five shows in one day, and I was on the last show of the day, so I got to watch most of the other contestants compete before I did.” When asked what he found most enjoyable about competing on Jeopardy he said, “I’ve spent so much time watching it as a viewer that it was an interesting experience to be on the other side as a contestant and to see how they edited the show before broadcasting it. Getting to hang out with the other contestants was also cool. There was such a wide variety of people there, all brought together by their love of trivia.”

The community at Sacred Heart Academy was just as excited. “My students were excited to hear about it, and some of the teachers had a watch party when the episode aired,” he says. “It has been a wonderful experience.”

While Joshua didn’t take home a win at the end of the night, he is grateful for the opportunity to have experienced the show he loves firsthand.
