Parents are the primary educators of their children, and Catholic schools in the Diocese of Grand Rapids are proud to partner with them in their students' education.
There are a variety of ways parents can help their students have a successful school year. WZZM 13 recently visited Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic School in Belmont to talk with Principal Domenic Franconi about a few tips. Watch the video at this link to see what he had to say.
Some tips include:
- Reading to children every day supports their academic growth; if they're able, you can even have them read to you
- Check the items in your child's backpack to make sure they haven't forgotten to share any important information with you and to help their organizational skills
- Ask your child specific questions about what they learned at school during the day, and have them teach it to you
- Discuss and model behavior that shows your child how to be a good classmate and friend
WZZM 13 also took a moment to learn about a hands-on learning project ABVM students are experiencing this year. They've built a vegetable garden, and the potatoes they grow will be used in some school lunches. Learn more in the video at this link.
