Catholic Central High School kicks off construction

Groundbreaking ceremony

The Catholic Central High School community gathered at their downtown Grand Rapids campus on May 31, 2017, to celebrate the start of construction as part of their Greatest Gift Campaign.

The $10 million Greatest Gift Campaign involves adding a third floor onto the school's north building and turning the space into a first-class facility for the STEAM fields, science, technology, engineering, arts and math. Additionally, a new student center will connect the main and north buildings. This space will have areas for collaborative projects, and it will allow for more students to eat lunch at once, meaning there will be fewer lunch periods required each day and 50 more minutes daily to support curricular and extracurricular priorities. It will also be an event space. The student center is scheduled to be completed before students arrive for the new school year in August. The STEAM center's is scheduled to take a little longer than that. The campaign will also take care of some deferred maintenance throughout campus. This campaign has also included the expansion of the CAT athletic facility, where the new football stadium, the school's first ever, opened in the fall of 2016.

Beyond supporting facility upgrades, the Greatest Gift Campaign also allows for increasing scholarships, student support services, and investment in teachers and staff.
