Administrators Retreat

Putting faith into action, principals and leaders from Catholic schools across the Diocese of Grand Rapids served local organizations during a recent retreat day.

The Feb. 28 retreat, coordinated by the Diocesan School Administrative Association, began with Mass at the Basilica of St. Adalbert on the west side of Grand Rapids. Following Mass, school leaders went to work for Steepletown Neighborhood Services and Kitchen Sage, both of which are housed on the Basilica’s campus.

Steepletown provides educational, workforce development, and community empowerment services to people in the urban core communities of Grand Rapids. Kitchen Sage is a workforce development initiative whose Culinary Leadership Academy introduces young adults to the hospitality profession. Kitchen Sage also provides meals for the Steepletown preschool.

Catholic school leaders volunteered with meal preparation for preschoolers, posting signs advertising Steepletown services in the neighborhood, cleaning facilities, and shopping for office supplies and groceries.

The retreat day provided a beautiful opportunity for living our faith and encountering our neighbors!
