Catholic Schools Week Mass at the Cathedral of Saint Andrew

Students attending Mass at the Cathedral of St. Andrew

In honor of Catholic Schools Week, Bishop David Walkowiak celebrated Mass at the Cathedral of Saint Andrew in Grand Rapids on January 31, 2017. Representatives from our 30 Catholic schools were there, and many Catholic school pastors concelebrated. Community partners also joined us.

Bishop Walkowiak is a strong supporter of Catholic schools and he wants more young people to have the same opportunity he had. To that end, the three-year Bishop’s Catholic Schools Initiative has three parts for growing enrollment: improving affordability through increased scholarships, growing professional capacity, and developing a plan for future vitality. Learn more about the Bishop’s Catholic Schools Initiative here.

Catholic Schools Week (January 29-Feb. 4, 2017) started in 1974 and is a joint project of the National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA) and the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB).
