Holy Spirit 5th graders depict history’s "who’s who" for living wax museum

If you could choose someone from history to meet, who would it be? This spring, fifth-graders at Holy Spirit Catholic School did more than just imagine an answer to that question – they researched some of history’s notable individuals and depicted them in a living wax museum.

The March 22 living wax museum was the culmination of an in-depth project. Each student chose a historical subject, wrote an expository research paper, produced a trifold display, and composed a speech to memorize and recite for museum guests.

Figures depicted by students include President Abraham Lincoln, chef Julia Child, pirate captain Bartholomew Roberts and basketball coach Pat Summitt. Many others were represented, as well.

Among the museum guests who enjoyed the students’ performances were members of a nearby retirement community. Students have been getting to know them through outreach activities this year and invited them to attend the living wax museum.

The living wax museum is an annual tradition at Holy Spirit. Every year for the past 12 years, the fifth grade has used this project to learn about notable historical figures.
