IHM 8th graders lead 17th annual Luminaries for Life vigil

Luminaries for Life

Wearing raincoats and holding umbrellas, students from Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic School in Grand Rapids gathered in the chilly rain on Jan. 22, 2018, to pray for an end to abortion and to promote the sanctity of life.

Every year, the IHM 8th graders lead the Luminaries for Life vigil to mark the anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court's 1973 Roe v. Wade decision which legalized abortion. At the vigil, students lined the sidewalks around the school with more than 300 candles and prayed for lives affected by abortion.

The vigil culminated with the whole school gathering in the gym to pray the rosary.
