We’re excited to introduce Tim Steen as the newest member of our team in the Office of Catholic Schools. Tim brings a wealth of experience and passion for educational technology through the lens of our Christian faith.

Tim’s educational journey began with a 23-year tenure at Eastern Christian School in New Jersey, where he specialized in integrating technology into high school education, focusing on coding and robotics. His decision to transition from the classroom was driven by a desire to expand his impact beyond traditional teaching roles while still remaining deeply involved in education.

In his new role, Tim is excited to assist educators in effectively leveraging technology to enhance both learning and societal benefit. He believes in the importance of integrating faith with technology, ensuring that it is used ethically and for the greater good. As he puts it, “We can, but maybe we shouldn’t…”—a reflection on the responsible use of tech.

Tim’s expertise extends to navigating the evolving landscape of AI. He views AI as a valuable tool for brainstorming and improving productivity, but he emphasizes its role as an enhancement rather than a shortcut. His goal is to help teachers utilize AI and other tech tools to support their instructional practices and benefit their students.

In his role, Tim will divide his time between working with the Office of Catholic Schools and Catholic Central High School, focusing on helping new teachers get acquainted with existing technologies and optimizing learning management systems like Canvas. As Sarah Grey, assistant superintendent of Catholic schools, shares, "We are excited to have Tim join us in the Office of Catholic Schools and look forward to the gifts he will bring to our team.  Having recently been in the classroom, he understands the challenges and opportunities teachers face when it comes to using technology to assist them as professionals, and enhance their instructional practices.”

Tim recently relocated to Grand Rapids from the east coast with his wife, Stephanie. With three children thriving in college and beyond, they are enjoying a new chapter in their lives. Please join us in welcoming Tim to this position and our community!
