West Catholic High School in Grand Rapids is building two new additions scheduled to open this fall.
The Henry J. and Cheryl L. Makarewicz Academic Learning Center will be a flexible learning space. It will serve three purposes: provide a space for teachers to engage students outside of the traditional classroom; host casual or formal gatherings; and serve as a location for students to study individually or in groups, receive tutoring, and socialize before and after school. The academic learning center is being built in the wing between the athletic and school entrances.
The alumni plaza at Falcon Field will include new concessions, restrooms, and a gathering area for pre-game events. It’s under construction at the south end of the track and will be raised slightly to look out over the field.
Opening events are planned in August for the alumni plaza and in October for the academic learning center.
