The men and women who have served in these branches of the armed forces were honored recently by students at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic School in Belmont.
Assumption students held their Veterans Day observance on Nov. 8. They began the day with Mass, inviting veterans to join in worship. A reception followed, including remarks from local state Representative Lynn Afendoulis, who thanked the veterans for their service to our country. Fourth graders also sang a song honoring each branch of service.

The ceremony at Assumption is just one example of Veterans Day events at Catholic schools around the Diocese of Grand Rapids.
Catholic schools in the Diocese of Grand Rapids are an alliance of 31 vibrant learning communities (26 elementary and five high schools) serving more than 6,340 preschool through 12th grade students throughout West Michigan. Our schools inspire young people to grow in Catholic faith and grace, achieve more in school and life, develop creativity and character, and feel welcomed and cherished for their unique gifts. We partner with parents to awaken the whole child to a world of light and life — that grows better and brighter when children reach their potential.
