On April 12, students from eight of our Catholic schools participated in the Battle of the Books. The event was hosted at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary School (ABVM) and was organized by teacher, Julie Mattioli. Unlike the national program, the diocesan Battle culminates on one day and is specific to students in 4th grade.
Over 70 of our fourth graders read from a list of 12 books chosen to appeal to a variety of interests and introduce young readers to a wide range of books (book list is shown in the photos below). Teams, made up of 6-8 students, practiced for months in order to become experts and to participate in the All-Team Competition and Championship Finale.
Congratulations to the winners, fourth graders from St. Anthony of Padua School! Second and third places were claimed by ABVM student teams. Please join us in congratulating all the students who worked so hard!
