Diocese offers Sensory-Friendly Mass every first Sunday

Sensoryfriendly Mass

In an effort to embrace, include, and welcome the members of our Church with intellectual and developmental disabilities and those suffering from cognitive conditions such as dementia, the Diocese of Grand Rapids’ Office of Faith Formation introduced and hosted a Sensory-Friendly Mass on Easter. This necessary offering will continue to be held on the first Sunday of each month at St. John Paul II Church in Cedar Springs starting this Sunday, May 1 at 2 p.m.

Many families with children with disabilities do not feel comfortable attending Mass. They may feel unwelcome, feel fear of being disruptive, or that it is just too difficult. Regardless of the reason, having a Mass that is specifically welcoming to these families is an essential step in bringing them back into the Church. A Sensory-Friendly Mass will include lower lights, softer music, and no incense. Please welcome these families home - together is where we belong!
